GUY DAIGLE

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work is a collection of thoughts, observations, ideas and fleeting moments from over a long period of time.  My habit has always been to write down moments of interest in a very sketchy form, mainly for recall.  The collection of sketches has stayed with me in notebooks, sketchbooks, pieces of paper or any thing used at the time which is the genesis of the art I’ve created.

I’ve found great value in being open to creativity, especially for the students I taught from age 5 to 18 years.  New ideas and techniques always came to mind as I tried hard to make their art classwork appealing, creative and especially for the work to “fit” to what they need in their time of life.  At the same time, my goal has been to fill assignments with art making techniques, even if the student didn’t know they were learning and doing it.

I wrote a statement in the middle of my career that reflects and summarizes the way I see the benefit of artwork: how it’s done and why, for what purpose and why such a subject as art came to be in history.  It became my personal mission statement.

MISSION STATEMENT

Art is the act of raising the level of awareness.  It is a way of focusing and alerting the mind and spirit to the aspects of nature.

It is the process of making art that opens the vision.  Nature includes the air we breathe, the land and all growth, the ebb and flow of the oceans, the movement of the planets, animals, people and all that of which surrounds us through our senses.  Nature is the relationships between and among people. It is the experience of being alive.  It is our thoughts, our joys and our fears.  It is the spark of creativity.

The Fine Arts give us understanding and appreciation of our own uniqueness.  It can capture the past, the present and thoughts of the future.
